About the RoleThis role will own and manage the environmental topics within ESG reporting, including carbon emissions, water efficiency, packaging, waste, and agricultural programmes, aligned with business priorities and external reporting requirements.
You will act as a subject-matter owner and methodology custodian for selected environmental ESG data, working closely with senior partners, ESG Reporting leadership, and external auditors. The role plays a key part in strengthening data quality, controls, and assurance across the ESG reporting cycle.
This is an individual contributor role with no direct line management responsibility, requiring strong influence and collaboration across functions.
Key ResponsibilitiesEnvironmental ESG Reporting & Data Ownership- Own and lead environmental ESG topics across the reporting cycle, aligned to business and reporting priorities
- Build strong relationships with senior partners, clearly communicating expectations for their involvement in ESG reporting
- Develop and maintain technical expertise to act as custodian of reporting methodologies, boundaries, and definitions for selected ESG data
- Coordinate and support training for data owners and users to drive accurate and consistent reporting
- Provide Second Line of Defence (LoD2) challenge to ESG data quality, including designing and operating validation controls
- Draft procedures, develop guidance materials, and provide consultancy support to functional teams
- Support continuous improvement of sustainability reporting from a systems and methodology perspective
- Ensure enhanced validation and control embedded throughout the reporting cycle
ESG Reporting & Assurance- Work closely with the ESG Reporting Environmental Senior Manager, ESG Reporting & Assurance Lead, and External Reporting Compliance Lead to implement agreed ESG reporting approaches
- Supply ESG data for the Annual Report and other disclosures (e.g. results presentations)
- Ensure compliance with ESG reporting standards, strategies, and principles
- Maintain consistency of ESG information across all external publications
- Support data quality from both reporting and audit perspectives
- Find opportunities to improve ESG reporting processes
- Act as a key liaison with external auditors, ensuring timely resolution of queries
- Support contributing functions with assurance-related principles and processes
- Collaborate with functional owners to recommend right-sized controls for selected financial data
- Review PwC findings for selected financial data and ensure FAC and Audit Committee reporting accurately reflects facts and management actions
About You - Relevant professional education Bachelor's or Master's degree or comparable experience in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or hands-on experience in ESG or environmental fields
(e.g. carbon, water, or waste management) - 3-5 years of professional experience in relevant fields
- Strong understanding of climate change and sustainability issues
- Experience with ESG data reporting
- Familiarity with EU, UK, and US sustainability reporting regulations and frameworks
(TCFD, SASB, GRI, GHG Protocol) - Strong interpersonal skills with experience leading cross-functional partners
- Ability to communicate effectively and expertly in English
- Solid understanding of end-to-end processes and internal controls, including build and operation
- Ability to solve complex issues with clear ownership and accountability
- Comfortable working independently with limited supervision
- Strong understanding of SOP goals, including positive drinking and sustainable development, and how to gather and communicate ESG data and stories to support corporate reputation
Additional Experience - Understanding of ESG disclosure trends and standard methodologies
- Experience with data assurance processes
- Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley / CARM compliance
- Knowledge of group reporting tools, such as Workiva (W-Desk) or BFC
